Related Skills

During my time at St. Olaf, I have developed a set of skills related to Marketing and Human Resources that will help me in future vocations. Although I hope to begin a career in Human Resources after graduation, I am extremely passionate about marketing and seek to enhance upon these skills in the future.

Public Speaking
  • My courses at St. Olaf College have helped prepare me for future vocations where public speaking is key. In particular, my experience in the Great Conversation program has helped shape me to be comfortable with public speaking and to volunteer my own insights.

  • Additionally, my experience as a tour guide and Admissions Student Worker at St. Olaf has also helped me to expand upon my skills with public speaking. As a tour guide, I have to alter each tour to fit the needs and interests of each particular student.

Critical Thinking

  • As a psychology major, I have learned to look at a problem critically before I research possible solutions. One course in particular that helped me to develop this skill was Research Methods of Psychology, in which students were encouraged to develop their own research questions and design experimental learning procedures. This course taught me how to be an independent thinking, and how to always approach a problem with a critical eye.

Creative Writing

Marketing Communications

  • As a marketing intern for Baxter Creidt Union (BCU), I helped to implement external communications to promote BCU's (Baxter Credit Union) brand to its members. During this internship, I primarily:

    • Created news releases to be distributed the discussed recent news pertaining to ongoing BCU efforts.

    • Assisted with the design of posts to be published on the credit union's social media sites, Facebook in particular.

    • Helped to manage email marketing campaigns

    • Developed internal communications to be delivered to BCU employees

    • Created Brainshark presentation videos to promote BCU's financial educational opportunities to be delivered to BCU members

Social Media
  • As a Marketing intern at BCU, I helped to write social media posts and located images that were to be included with the message. In particular, I assisted with the "Money Tip Tuesday" posts, in which BCU would post tips for financial well-being on the Facebook page.

  • In addition to my internship experience, I have also designed and managed the Facebook page for the Shalom Home, the Jewish Service and Community Outreach honor house at St. Olaf College. For this page, I took photos during events and would later post them to Facebook to help bring attention to Shalom Home's community involvement. In addition, I designed graphics that would advertise for future events to be posted on the Facebook page.

  • As mentioned above, I also managed the Facebook page for Alpha Phi Omega at St. Olaf College. Posts for APO involved: fellowship events, service events, and discussing ongoing collaboration with other organizations such as the American Red Cross.

Adobe Photoshop Experience
  • As the Marketing Communications Officer of the Political Awareness Committee (PAC) at St. Olaf, I gained great insight on the utilization of Photoshop. During my time as a marketing officer, I created around a dozen posters on Photoshop to be distributed accross campus to advertise for PAC's upcoming events. In addtion to these posters, I collaborated with a fellow officer to design a 5 ft. x 3 ft. poster to notify the campus of an upcoming event where Stephanie Cutter, former Campaign Director for President Obama's reelection, came to speak on her experiences being involved with both marketing and the world of politics.

  • I have also gained experience with Photoshop during my time as an intern with the Marketing department of Baxter Credit Union. I helped to design images to be used in internal communciations, such as in Brainshark productions.

Copy Editing and Email Marketing

  • All of my writing based courses at St. Olaf have taught me the importance of re-reading and proofing one's own materials.

  • I further developed this skill as a marketing intern at Baxter Credit Union (BCU), where I assisted with copy writing and editing for materials that were to be distributed to the members of the credit union.

  • In addition to copy editing, I also helped to write emails that were to be distributed to members of BCU..

    • Topics ranged from loan deferral, to onboarding and how to make the most of one's memmbership at the Credit Union

Photography

  • My experience with Photography began when I was a Marketing Coordinator for PAC, a non partison political student led group on campus. I would take photos for PAC events, and would upload these pictures to the PAC and SGA Facebook pages.

  • During the Spring Semester of 2015, I took a beginning photography course at St. Olaf. In this course, we focused on film photography, digital photography, and experimented with Photoshop to manipulate photos. Some key areas that we studied were: focus, depth of field, disparity, light, and black and white versus color photography.

  • Due to my experience in photography at St. Olaf College, I have also been able to develop my skills in event photography. During my time in Alpha Phi Omega and PAC, I have been in charge of photographing signficant events, and making sure that these events would be publicized to the St. Olaf community. Through my experience with event photography, I have learned that a photo can be a powerful tool for promoting messages and can hold great value for being able to impact the views of its target audience.
