VOCATIONAL VISION
During the summer of 2014, I worked as a summer co-op for Baxter Credit Union, BCU, which is headquartered in Vernon Hills, IL. I had worked as an intern in the Marketing department the summer before, but this year I interned with both the Human Resources and Talent Management Departments. That summer solidified my passion for HR, and led me to envision a career where I could spend my day-to-day activities impacting the lives of my fellow employees. Although I worked with both Talent Management and Human Resources, the majority of my time was spent collaborating with the recruitment sector of HR. I gained exposure to the recruitment process from start to finish, and quickly learned that you need to become open minded and think broadly in order to be successful in this field. I loved the idea of seeing candidates that I helped to bring in work for the company and flourish in the environment. For me, the most inspiring aspect of recruiting is that you get to see the first-hand results of your efforts and hard work.
In the future, I hope to become a Talent Acquisition representative and work to recruit those who are truly passionate about their vocations. Although I am not sure which industry I plan to go into at the moment, I look forward to developing my skillset further so I can be successful in bringing in the best possible talent for my company. As a student with a liberal arts degree background at St. Olaf College, I will approach each candidate with an open mind, and will critically evaluate his or her potential to become a company "fit".
